Services
Focusing on services that build independence, knowledge and self-esteem.
The Arc of Volusia offers a wide range of services to assist adults in our community with developmental disabilities. Our variety of programs including behavioral and mental health services, educational curriculum and community inclusion events are all focused on turning our clients’ abilities into opportunities.
One of our primary goals at Arc of Volusia is to support the independence of our clients where possible. We have two programs that focus on this goal: Supported Independent Living and Supported Independent Employment.
Encouraging independent living environments.
We serve individuals who live independently in the community in their own apartments or homes. Our Supported Independent Living Coaches assist individuals to live full lives in their communities and realize their full potential as citizens. Individuals receive services to include: accessing affordable housing, budgeting, meal planning and preparation, disaster planning, and health and safety. Coaches work with individuals to develop and maintain scheduled activities such as work, recreation, bill payment, grocery shopping, laundry, medical appointments and medications. Coaches also assist with appointments, phone calls, documentation, and deadlines associated with maintaining benefits such as Social Security, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Medicare and Section 8.
Assisting with job placement in Volusia and Flagler Counties.
We serve individuals who are competitively employed in the community. Supported Employment Coaches assist individuals through all phases of employment; from employment assessment, job development, resume writing, job application, interview, and on site training, to stabilization and follow along. Coaches work closely with individuals’ support circle to ensure a good job match for optimum success. Once individuals are employed, the Supported Employment Coaches assist them to maintain stable employment, develop skills for career advancement, coordinate Social Security and Medicaid Benefits, transportation, communication and adjustment to the workplace. Coaches are prepared to follow individuals throughout their employment career and assist if breaks in employment occur. We are also a Vocational Rehabilitation provider for Volusia and Flagler Counties. As a result, we have referred people from our workshop to and have accepted referrals from Vocation Rehabilitation for supported employment services.
