Vocational Programs
Boost skills and independence through our award-winning* vocational programs.
The focus of the Vocational Programs is for each individual to experience meaningful day activities and develop the skills in the area of daily living, academic, social, sensory, motor skills, art, and vocational. Individuals participate in a 1-1, 1-3, 1-5, or 1-10 staff to consumer ratio. The ratio is determined according to individual skill level. Individuals participating in the vocation component of this program perform finishing work for area businesses and are paid according to the Department of Labor Standards. Training activities provide variation and interest. Each individual may participate in outings where they are exposed to a variety of places to work and experience life in the community. An individual program plan is develop for each person and Adult Basic Education sponsored by Daytona State College is available to each individual.
Proven progress: monthly and quarterly student evaluations.
Student evaluations are documented monthly and quarterly, as well as annually, to assure each student is succeeding in meeting his/her goals. Individuals participating in the vocational component of this program perform finishing work for area businesses and are paid according to the Department of Labor Standards. Entrepreneurial concepts and spirit is practiced to spur innovative methods and ideals to further the mission of the agency.
Multiple service centers with a variety of programs to meet all needs.
During the past year 188 individuals received vocational training services at our Daytona and Deland service centers. Curriculum is designed to assist individuals develop skills that promote choice, provide variation and support individual interest. The curriculum includes community outings to expose individuals to a variety of places in the community, learn appropriate work behaviors, develop work skills, perform work on contracts obtained from local businesses, participate in entrepreneurial enterprises and participate in recreation and leisure activities.

The Local Arc Chapter of the Year Award honors a local chapter for outstanding efforts to maintain and/or build programs of excellence in their community and demonstrate a significant expansion or improvement in services during the past year.
In 2009, the Arc of Volusia was awarded the Arc of the Year for embodying all that the award stands for. The Arc of Volusia aggressively pursued new lines of business and services all the way from military contracts to doggie biscuits in order to keep the agency in good standing during these difficult times. The Arc of Volusia reached out to families in neighboring communities that desired Arc services not offered in their community and worked as a partner with the local colleges and school systems. The Arc of Volusia embodies an agency that is moving forward and expanding, yet constantly improving the quality of services offered.
